# Introduction

> Manage Arct Cloud servers over a REST API.

The Arct Cloud API manages servers, SSH keys, invoices and the catalog. Use the [Python and TypeScript SDKs](/api-reference/sdks.md) in applications or the [Arct CLI](/api-reference/cli.md) in your terminal.

## Before You Start

* Create an API token; see [Authentication](/api-reference/authentication.md).
* `POST /servers` and resizes charge a saved card; see [Creating Servers](/api-reference/creating-servers.md).

## Conventions

| Topic | Rule |
| - | - |
| IDs | UUIDs. Locations use `code` (any case in, lowercase out); plans use `slug`. |
| Money | USD. |
| Timestamps | ISO 8601, UTC. |
| Lists | [Paginated](/api-reference/pagination.md) with `page` and `per_page`. |
| Errors | One [envelope](/api-reference/errors.md) with a stable `code`. |
| Limits | [Rate limits](/api-reference/rate-limits.md) per token; writes also per account. |

## Not in the API

Dashboard only: password reset, paying invoices, cards and the default card, backup/snapshot management, API tokens, the VNC console, crypto payments. The API supports [scheduled deletion and cancellation](/api-reference/creating-servers.md#delete-at-period-end), and server creation can enable automatic backups. No webhooks; poll `GET /servers/{server_id}`.
